Health care

Carol Slade has been named director of women's and children's services at Trident Medical Center. Previously she was manager for the pediatric and Level II nursery units at Trident. She has an associate's degree in nursing from Craven Community College.

Law

George C. Beighley Jr., Joseph C. Delk IV and T. Happel Scurry have joined Hood Law Firm LLC as associates.

Beighley has a bachelor's degree from Vanderbilt University and a law degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law. His areas of practice include general negligence, civil and commercial litigation, insurance law, product liability, medical malpractice defense, health care law and employment law.

Delk has a bachelor's degree from Duke University and a law degree from Washington & Lee School of Law. His areas of practice include commercial litigation, insurance law, employment law, product liability, medical practice defense and health care law.

Scurry has a bachelor's degree from Wofford College and a law degree from the USC School of Law. His areas of practice include construction law, medical malpractice, environmental claims, toxic torts, insurance law, products liability and commercial litigation.

Amy D. Jowers has joined the Charleston office of Nexsen Pruet as an associate. She previously was a clerk with the office of the Richland County Public Defender. She also held numerous positions with Wachovia Corp. in Raleigh and Greenville. She has a bachelor's degree from Furman University and a law degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law. She will focus on business litigation.

Sara E. DeWolf has joined Pratt-Thomas Walker PA as an associate. She has a bachelor's degree from the College of Charleston and a law degree from Duke University. Previously, she taught school in 2003 and 2004 in Dorchester District 2.

James S. "Steve" Bruce, Minka J. Lanier and Patrick Coleman Wooten have joined Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough's Charleston office as associates.

Bruce served on active duty in the U.S. Air Force for 12 years and practices in the areas of litigation, corporate compliance and government contracting. He has a bachelor's degree from Auburn University and a law degree from the Charleston School of Law.

Lanier practices in the areas of product liability, premises liability, pharmaceutical and medical device litigation, and class action defense. She has a bachelor's degree from Cornell University, a master's degree in pastoral counseling from Columbia Biblical Seminary and a law degree from Regent University School of Law.

Wooten will practice in the areas of business litigation, class action defense, pharmaceutical and medical device litigation, premises liability, and product liability. He has a bachelor's degree from the University of South Carolina and a law degree from Duke University School of Law.

Nonprofit

Tara Spicer has joined the Charleston Regional Development Alliance as head of its investor and community relations programs. Previously, she was president of Palmetto Development Strategies.

Steffanie Godsill and Leigh Craig Danley have joined Crisis Ministries. Godsill is director of development and campaigns. Previously, she worked on The Citadel Foundation's $100 million campaign. Danley is director of community relations and annual giving. He previously has worked for the Muscular Dystrophy Association and the ALS Association in Dallas.

Meredith Goodwin Repik has joined the March of Dimes as executive director for its Lowcountry division. She previously was with Carolina One Real Estate and Mortgage and has worked for the March of Dimes previously from 1999 to 2004. She has a bachelor's degree in communications from Anderson University.

Technology

Mike Atkinson, Caraline DiNunzio and Stacey Dryden have been promoted at the Advanced Technology Institute, an affiliate of the South Carolina Research Authority.

Atkinson is deputy program manager of ATI's initiative to develop advanced shipboard cargo handling technologies for the U.S. Navy. He is a 21-year Navy veteran.

DiNunzio is contracts administrator. She has a bachelor's degree from the College of Charleston and a master's degree in business administration from The Citadel.

Dryden was promoted to procurement analyst II. She has a bachelor's degree in business administration from Charleston Southern University.
