While rock and country music remains as popular in the Lowcountry as everywhere else, there are a number of area venues where both local and national acts performing both genres can be enjoyed on a regular basis.
Hip-hop is as popular as rock or country, often more so. Yet places to enjoy live rap acts remain few and far between.
Enter the Kush Lounge. The nightclub/concert venue is one of a handful that regularly books some of the hottest local, regional and national up-and-coming hip-hop groups, in addition to R&B and other urban music formats.
Located on College Park Road in Ladson, Kush Lounge gets creative with its promotions, everything from a $3,500 bar tab contest to ladies' night specials, in which female patrons receive special treatment or free admission.
To emphasize the scarcity, and subsequent importance, of live venues for hip-hop acts, simply Google "Kush Lounge, Ladson" and you will immediately find a host of YouTube videos and various advertisements from rap acts all over the country, touting both past and future appearances at the Lowcountry nightclub.
Basic economics dictates that high demand inevitably leads to supply.
And Kush Lounge has wisely cornered the Lowcountry market on one of America's most popular music genres.
