Investiture celebrations set for new USC president

COLUMBIA — Two days of celebrations for new University of South Carolina president Harris Pastides are getting under way with a pizza party put on by students.

Several bands are scheduled to perform at “Pastides Palooza” on Thursday afternoon, and the school says students will also present a gift to Pastides.

The former vice president for research and health sciences will be officially installed as president on Friday, followed by a reception that is open to the public.

Pastides was chosen to replace retiring president Andrew Sorensen in July. He officially took over as president in August.
