15-year-old held in armed robbery

Tuesday, November 18, 2008

North Charleston police arrested a teenager after a pizza-delivery driver reported being robbed in an apartment complex near McMillan Avenue on Sunday evening.

The 40-year-old driver, whose employer is not identified in the police report, had just made a delivery at the St. Charles Place apartments and was walking back to his vehicle when three teenagers rode up on bicycles around 8 p.m., the report says. One of them pulled out a gun and placed it to the driver's head.

After taking money from the driver, the three rode away.

While standing with police, the victim pointed out a teenager he thought was standing next to the gunman, according to the report.

Officers detained a 15-year-old, who was transported to the Department of Juvenile Justice on an armed-robbery charge. Officers did not find anyone else in the area.

The driver described all the suspects as black males between the ages of 15 and 20. He told police that the one with the gun was about 5 feet 7 inches tall and 120 pounds with dreadlocks, a camouflage fatigue jacket and black jeans.

He told police the third suspect was too far away to describe very well.

Kids with guns... that's just great.

I'm amazed that pizza is even delivered in that complex.

Those kids need to be caught and put on the street corner in chains and made to beg money for the Charleston Symphony Orchestra...then sent to jail to be someone's girlfriend!

awwww--c'mon! Don't be so down on them. There's just following in their role models footsteps. It looked soooo easy on the xbox game & in the MTV/BET videos. And the rappers who beat about this stuff makes millions off their old school experiences doing the same.

(can you detect the major dose of sarcasism)
That's part of the problem right there: games, music, movies -- the whole blooming "entertainment" industry. Combine that with the social services programs who empower kids to believe they are equal to adults and parental views with the 'my-child-wouldn't-do-that' mentality - the chemical reaction is in process and the brains are forever warped.

I think the arts have sold out to what is basest in us and the dollar too. Much of the entertainment industry produces shock noise and video then fosters it off to us as reality this and that. Freedom with no moral standard is a dangerous thing to have and hold. How free are you if you cannot do your job safely or have a pizza delivered to your home safely.

When I talk with people my age, we occassionally mention something about "back in the day." Can you imagine these punks years from now (if they live that long) sitting in their cell: "Hey, Joe, do you remember back in the day knocking off that pizza guy for 20 bucks. Yep, those were the days."

It's sad to read about another group of misguided young adults robbing pizza delivery drivers. These lesser crimes usually build up around this time of year. The best thing to do is give them everything they want and save your own life. Even if I were in the delivery business and decided to carry a gun, I would be more afraid of the gunman I didn't see watching the robbery unfold.
