Scarlet lights up owners' lives

Fifteen years ago my husband received a Sheltie puppy, Scarlet, from a nurse in Illinois.

Scarlet has remained with him through thick and thin. In 1995, Scarlet and Jose moved to Germany where they lived for two years.

In June 2003, Jose and I met, and, by October, they had moved to Charleston. Once here, she took to me like I had been around her since the beginning.

Less than two years later, we received military orders to move to Germany. Again, she made the trek back to Europe. While there, Scarlet went to Switzerland, Poland, Austria, and all over Germany (from Bavaria to Berlin), and in 2008 we moved back to Charleston.

In September 2008, Scarlet took a fall while chasing a ball in the yard. She never once whined but began limping very badly. The following day, she had reconstructive surgery on the cruciate ligament and meniscus in her right knee.

Coastal Carolina Veterinary Specialists, Dr. Parnell and his staff, and Whitney, Scarlet's physical therapist, took time and cared for this special family member of ours. Scarlet is again walking and slowly playing again like her old self.

Like most, we are sure Scarlet knows everything we are talking about, no matter if we spell it or say it. She loves to take car rides and enjoys traveling almost more than we do. To say the least, she lights up our lives and everyone who meets her!

Nyles & Daphney

Nyles "My Boy," 7, and Daphney "Pearl," 5, are two "sniverling, snarling, white hot balls of Jack Russell canine terriers."

Not really, though. They are the funniest, most loving and lively little dogs. They both understand human language quite nicely. Caution is given when saying certain words like Go, Ride, Walk, Ball, and Squirrel. They can wake from a deep sleep if they hear these words.

When their human parents are at work, they love to unmake the bed and curl up for long naps until we come home, to play, of course.

Nyles' hobbies include playing soccer, chasing water from the hose, catch, getting back scratches and curling up under the bed covers for naps.

Daphney's hobbies are jumping at the fish in the aquarium, keeping a sharp lookout for squirrel trespassers in the yard, and playing dress-up with her human auntie, Kaylyn.

Nyles and Daphney provide their humans with lots of entertainment, love and fun. And yes, we did name them after characters on "Frasier." It was our favorite show at the time.
