Boathouse Restaurant taking over Mimi's on James Island
The owner of the local Boathouse Restaurant chain plans to open a third location, this one west of the Ashley River.
Crew Carolina announced plans Friday to takeover Mimi's Cafe on James Island, which will stop offering its homey Southern fare on Dec. 28.
The Boathouse on Ellis Creek is expected to open in mid-February.
Crew Carolina operates the Boathouse restaurants on Isle of Palms and in downtown Charleston, in addition to Carolina's restaurant, Carolina Catering and the retail food line Simply Southern Products.
Friday's announcement comes several months after company officials said the shaky economy had affected its revenue. Earlier this year, the company announced it would scrap its plans to open a Boathouse restaurant in Greenville, and it closed its Asheville location after five years of operation.
