Mailed-marijuana case nets 2 arrests

Thursday, November 13, 2008

COLUMBIA — Authorities have arrested two South Carolina women who received 12 pounds of marijuana through the mail.

Columbia police spokesman Brick Lewis said Wednesday that police acted on a tip that the women were receiving packages containing drugs. Jocelyn Roberts and Marlo Lyles were arrested Monday.

Authorities say the package was addressed to one of the woman.

Roberts was charged with distribution of marijuana, while Lyles was charged with trafficking marijuana. Both also have been charged with possession with intent to distribute near a school or park.

The women could not be reached for comment.

Hi-tech operation? (or the height of laziness - just mail that to me so I don't have to leave the house)

Did these women really think they woud get by with receiving an illegal substance through the mail ? We are talking about an era where terrorism has prevailed and Anthrax laced packages have been found. The USPS uses sophisticated equipment to scan U.S. mail nowadays. I suppose some people will never learn ... or maybe they are just plain illiterate (cannot read) and/or deaf (can't hear news broadcasts) ... Whatever the case, the word IDIOTS comes to mind.

Would it have been better if they had used UPS or Fed Ex?

I think it's ironic the Columbia police spokeman is named Brick and these ladies were waiting for a 'brick' of weed.

We need to legalize marijuana so that people can purchase it at pharmacies and not have to send it through the mail.
