Wando's Glover tabbed state's best in AAAA volleyball

Wando's Christina Glover has been named the Class AAAA volleyball player of the year by the Coaches Association of Women's Sports (CAWS) and is one of five local players named to the organization's Class AAAA all-state team.

The other local players to be named all-state in Class AAAA are Meredith Mutispaugh and Elizabeth Miler, Summerville; Larz Chabra, Wando, and Tory Shepherd, Berkeley.

Hilton Head's Carly Ledbetter is the Class AAA player of the year. Teammate Nysa Hicks was also named all-state, as was Shay Peterson of Bluffton.

Class AA state champion Bishop England had two players make the all-state team: Mary Crawford James and Katie Cummings. Ashton Jarrett of Hanahan and Heather Hill of Woodland also made the team.

Cross had two players make the Class A all-state team: Dana Johnson and Chelsie Busbin.

CAWS also announced the North-South all-star match rosters.

Local players making the Class AAAA-AAA South roster include Glover, Chabra, Mutsipaugh, Ledbetter, Hicks, Peterson and Haley Sulka of Bluffton.

Alexis Glover of state runner-up Wando is the head coach.

Local players making the Class AA-A South roster include Jarrett, Hill and Johnson.

Region 8-AAAA stars

Region 8-AAAA announced its volleyball and girls tennis all-star teams.

The volleyball team includes Andrea Fabian, Blake Banner and Mindy Morris, Beaufort; Brittni Miller and Chelsea Allen, Fort Dorchester; Sophia Jusino and Elizabeth Miler and Meredith Mutispaugh, Summerville; Suzanne Long and Lauren Toth, West Ashley.

Jeni Whitman of Beaufort is the coach of the year.

The tennis team includes Samantha Sullivan, Marian Hohenwarter and Hannah Werner, Beaufort; Mari Alice Jones and Allison Martin, Fort Dorchester; Caroline Green and Taylor Drew, Summerville; Casey Ripley and Aundrea Vealey, West Ashley.

David Riedmayer of Beaufort is the region coach of the year.

SCISA stars

Ashley Hall's Rachel Ellyn is the volleyball player of the year in SCISA Region 3-AAA while Franny Slay is coach of the year.

Joining Ellyn on the team are Litsa Darby and Katherine Morrison, Ashley Hall; Kyle Novak and Harlan Renken, Porter-Gaud; Jessica Graham and Ashton Brant, Northwood Academy; Sarah Gaskins, Pinewood Prep; and Taylor Tree, Hilton Head Prep.

Pritcher brothers

Today will be a big day in the Pritcher household.

James Island pitcher Austin Pritcher will sign with The Citadel, while his brother, Robert, will sign with the College of Charleston.

He had a solid junior season for the Trojans. He started seven games and posted a 4-1 record, with a 2.23 ERA. He walked nine and struck out 42 in 44 innings of work.

Robert played for Spartanburg Methodist last spring. He batted .259 with five doubles and nine RBIs.

Signing day

Today is the Early National Signing Day, and The Post and Courier will run a list of signings in Thursday's edition. Coaches and athletic directors are asked to e-mail a list of signings to pbowman@postandcourier.com. Photos of signees may also be e-mailed to the same address.

Include the student-athlete's sport, position and college.
