The Eagles are coming back to the Lowcountry, with a concert scheduled for Jan. 16 at the North Charleston Coliseum.

Take it easy, folks. The Eagles are coming to town.

North Charleston Coliseum officials announced today that original members Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit will be swooping through the Lowcountry for the band's second stop here in four years. The guys are scheduled to take the stage Jan. 16.

As for why big-name acts like the Eagles keep visiting our neck of the woods, coliseum marketing manager Alan Coker says he thinks they simply like the area and the venue.

"We've been really fortunate in the past few years to have guys like Elton John, Bruce Springsteen and the Eagles come here," Coker said. "As to why they keep coming, I think they like Charleston and they enjoy the intimacy of the building. In fact, I have been told as much on several occasions."

On the heels of the success of its latest album, "Long Road Out of Eden," the Eagles will perform current hits like "How Long" and "Busy Being Fabulous," as well as plenty of their classic songs.

The Eagles are one of the most successful rock bands of all time, having sold more than 120 million albums worldwide, earning five No. 1 U.S. singles and four Grammy awards.

The band's "Greatest Hits 1971-1975" is considered the best-selling album of all time, exceeding sales of 29 million units. In 1998, the group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

For a sneak peek of the guys in action, tune into the 42nd annual CMA Awards, which airs live tonight at 8 on WCIV.

Tickets for the coliseum show will go on sale at 10 a.m. Nov. 21; prices haven't been released yet. Tickets will be available at www.ticketmaster.com, all Ticketmaster outlets (including select Publix grocery stores), the Coliseum box office or by calling 554-6060.

Starting at 10 a.m. Friday, if you are an American Express cardholder, you can log onto Ticketmaster's Web site and grab your tickets early. This opportunity runs though 10 p.m. Nov. 20.

Why go to an Eagles concert? You can hear their songs 35 times a day still on repetitious classic rock radio. That is why I don't listen to classic rock radio. Repetition. I remember when that "Hotel California" came out. They played it every half hour on modern pop rock stations. I'd start up the car and three stations would be playing it. Same thing for Fleetwood Mac. If I never hear an Eagles or Fleetwood Mac song again it will be fine with me.

They have such a large bank of good songs that I'd really like to see them. Most likely the tickets will be priced way above what I consider reasonable though, so I doubt I'd go. Selling to American Express card holders exclusively a full 24 hours before the rest of the public can buy tickets is also an issue with me. Commercialization... gotta love it!

Just heard the approximate ticket prices: $190 for the good seats! $141+ for the mediocre seats, and $60-$141 for the "cheap" seats! Ouch!

ColdBud, looks like American Express holders can purchase tickets a full WEEK before the rest of the public can buy tickets.

I would love to see them. I just hate going to concerts at N. Chas because of the scam they pulled with Springstein. You can get the worst seat in the house and still pay the same highest price that the guy down on the front row pays, depending on when you buy. Scam.
