Charleston and Islands

Wild Wednesday (ages 6-11): 3:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Nov. 12, 19. Bears, beasts, dinosaurs and creeps. Come exploring with inspiration from the Crafts for Kids Who Are Wild About series and other craft-acular arts and crafts books by Kathy Ross. Featuring Beauty and the Beast paper dolls (Nov. 12) and Running Gingerbread Boy (Nov. 19).

Dangerous & Daring Book Club (ages 6-11): 3:30 p.m. Thursdays, Nov. 6, 13, 20. "The Dangerous Book for Boys" and "The Daring Book for Girls" are chock-full of useful secrets, skills and information. Paper Marbling and Peach Pit Rings (Nov. 6), Handclap Games and Books Every Boy (and girl!) Should Read (Nov. 13) and Chinese Jump Rope and Marbles (Nov. 20).

Networking Night for Entrepreneurs (adults): 6-7:30 p.m. Nov. 6. Need to grow your network? Join group for monthly networking event. Bring your business cards and your best elevator speech.

Chopsticks (all ages): 3-5 p.m. Fridays, Nov. 7, 14, 21. Enjoy light classical music and favorite children's songs while you color with friends.

Spotlight Saturday: Thanksgiving and Native American Heritage (all ages). 2 p.m. Nov. 8. Look back in time with crafts and activities.

Wildlife Artist Anne Worsham Richardson: 2 p.m. Nov. 9. Anne Worsham Richardson brings her wildlife artwork to life with her adventures of encountering nature. Grades 4-8 with parents.

Butcher Town: "A Brief History of the Slaughter Houses of Early Charleston": 7 p.m. Nov. 12. The landscape of urban Charleston was once dotted with cattle pens and slaughter houses, but two centuries of complaints about unsanitary conditions drove them off the peninsula. Join Dr. Nic Butler, manager of the Charleston Archive at CCPL, for an illustrated overview of this long-forgotten part of Charleston's commerce.

Children's Movie: "Winnie the Pooh: Seasons of Giving": 10:30 and 11:45 a.m. Nov. 20. Celebrate the holidays with Pooh, Piglet, Tigger and Rabbit. Rated G; 70 minutes.

Art Display: Through Nov. 30. Nancy Lemon, an S.C. native, will display artwork that takes a simple still life and shakes it, creating a world where vegetables dance and breakfast floats.

Frame Display: Through Nov. 30. Bernice Nesmith and her husband will display custom-made frames that can showcase individual prints, artwork, certificates, diplomas, memorabilia and sports prints.

The Chatter Box @ Johns Island Library (grades 6-12): 3:30-4:30 p.m. Nov. 12. So, who won the presidential race? That's just one of the things group can chatter about this month. Find out the reason

Veterans Day is always on Nov. 11 and talk about what you will be doing on your days off.

English: See It and Speak It! (adults): 6:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Nov. 12, 19. Learn to speak conversational English in an informal way.

Forum: 10:30 a.m.-noon Nov. 8. Join Britta Parchois, AARP tax volunteer, and learn about the aspects of Medicare, Medicare Plans A & B, and Medicare supplemental plans. Another forum on additional Medicare topics will be held at the library Nov. 10.

Saturday Movie Matinee: "Spiderwick Chronicles" (all ages). 2 p.m. Nov. 8. From the beloved best-selling series of books comes this fantasy adventure about the Grave family who moves into the secluded house of their great-great-uncle Arthur Spiderwick. Rated PG; 101 minutes.

Forum: 10:30 a.m.-noon Nov. 10. Join Britta Parchois, AARP tax volunteer, for a discussion on topics that will include how long-term insurance works, what prescription drug plans cover, the advantages and disadvantages of a Medicare Advantage Plan and the tax benefits of health savings accounts.
