SPA selling 25 miles of railroad
By Peter Hull (Contact)

Tuesday, May 20, 2008
The State Ports Authority board on Tuesday agreed to sell about 25 miles of railroad in Beaufort County to the Beaufort-Jasper Water and Sewer Authority for $3 million.
The stretch of track runs from milepost AMJ-443.37 in Yemassee to the southern boundary of Ribaut Road in Port Royal, near milepost AMJ-467.
The sale does not involve the SPA's Port of Port Royal property, which has been on the market since late 2005.
The railroad tracks were unused by the ports authority and the water authority wanted to acquire the land for right of way.
