EMS driver arrested; was also involved in fatal March crash

Berkeley County Sheriff's deputies arrested a Charleston County emergency medical technician Friday on charges of committing a lewd act on a child under 16, authorities said. Gerald Stewart also was the driver of an ambulance involved in a fatal March 25 crash on Calhoun Street in downtown Charleston that killed College of Charleston student Emily J. Salisbury. Charleston County put Stewart on administrative leave after learning of the arrest, according to a release. He has been an EMS employee since 2006. Charleston County officials referred other questions to Berkeley County deputies, who could not immediately provide details about the charge.

it has nothing to do with this story it has no place and no its not a character reference. those emts were deemed not at fault in the accident the girl was at fault.

I don't see nothing wrong the P&C mentioning the accident.

His role in the accident is part of the public record and helps identify who he is.
Also, the girl was not the only at-fault party in the Calhoun Street accident...the ambulance did not have a siren on and was speeding down the oncoming lane to avoid traffic. The girl might have noticed had she been more careful, but the ambulance contributed to the accident.

No, no one ever finds fault in mudslinging until it affects you personally. I hope to see your names on here one day and have people discussing your life and calling you a "creep". This "creep" may have saved the life of a friend or loved one of yours. These guys don't work in EMS for the money, trust me. Have a little decency and stop judging people you don't even know. It might be you one day being condemned by people who know nothing about you. Not to mention, a charge does not mean guilt. It's an allegation and merely that.

"jca - those emts were deemed not at fault in the accident the girl was at fault."
I don't where you got your info but it's incorrect, the EMS unit was cited as contributing - at fault - and the girl was NOT at fault
there were several things the EMS unit did wrong that caused that accident, as you'll find out when the whole case in finished
that "girl" Emily did nothing wrong, she was a couple of car lengths ahead of the EMS unit and made a left turn unaware that the EMS unit was getting ready to speed into her across the yellow line
at least try to get your facts straight before you post on here blaming victims...
of course the EMS didn't intend to kill her, but they did... sad story for all involved

This wouldn't have made the paper if he hadn't been involoved in that crash. But thats how it goes I guess.

mellaneous: as long as we do what is right both legally and morally than we will not be written about or called a creep on this or any other website. Obviously something must have happened for these allegations to be brought up. As long as you act approriately and don't put your self in a position you shouldn't be in then you shouldn't be called a creep. Calling him a creep is putting it a lot nicer than I ever would have.

He did not cause the wreck. I cannot speak for him on the 2nd charge but I will defend him on the wreck. Also if he is guilty, then yes he is a bad person. Last time I checked we were innocent until proven guilty.

OK with the lewd act charge-he might be a creep. But the wreck has NOTHING to do with it.How is an accident he was involoved in make him a creep?Racing to go save a life?Wow what a terrible character reference!*note large amount of sarcasm*I'm not sure-but I never heard that EMS was deemed at fault.Or that anyone was charged.I did read that the girl was "running late for class".hmmmm I'm sick and tired of the arrogant fools around here refusing to pull over for emergency vehicles and dart out in front of them. (as if they're trying to outrun them) Don't like medics?Next time call a crack head when you need help! :)
