The Post and Courier
Jesse P. Meyers
Officers responded to an apartment on the upper Charleston peninsula Sunday night to find a man mortally wounded by gunfire, according to an incident report from the Charleston Police Department. Charleston County Deputy Coroner Bobbi Jo O'Neal said the victim was Jesse P. Meyers, 23, of North Charleston. Meyers died from gunshot wounds at 10:40 p.m. Sunday at Medical University Hospital, O'Neal said. Police received an anonymous complaint about the shooting at No. 6-J Lee St. at 9:46 p.m., the incident report says. Officers found a man lying face down and unresponsive in an upstairs bedroom. A large amount of blood was found on the floor near the victim, the report says. EMS trans-ported the victim to Medical University Hospital. Charles Francis, spokesman for the Charleston Police Department, said an investigation into the incident is continuing.

There is a look that people can get that says "I'm bad & I'm mad".
White, black, Hispanic...I've seen it on the spectrum of humanity's faces. All too often I have seen this in the casual shots provided of a suspect, as well as victims who were involved in the high risk activity that involved an assault.
I wonder if these are the only types of photos the family has to provide?

My heart goes out to the family of this individual for their loss.
Abitskep: You raise a very valid point and I share your sentiments. It seems as though the most positive image of the deceased should be shared with the public since it is quite a natural tendency to first judge on appearances. If there is no image available that positively supports the “character” of the individual, do not use a photo.

I really wish you pathetic clowns would stop being so judgemental to people and situations you know nothing about. You dont know him. You didnt know him. There are those of us who did that get on this website just like you all do and its hurting me to see my lifelong friend in such a bad situation like this one. He didnt deserve what happened. And I wish you people on the internet who never have to worry about this type of violence would take that into account when you make reckless rash remarks about other people when you have no idea the type of person he was or how his murder is affecting those who knew him.

Not related to this article, but it made me think...
Is it possible, without paying a fee, to do a criminals records search on a name at the local authority websites? If so, can someone tell me how?

ColdBeer, do you mean other than the Charleston County site?
Not sure exactly what you are asking.
The only site I know is: www.charlestoncounty.org.

I've seen people on here comment about a person's rap sheet when the details were not covered in the article, so I am assuming they are getting the information some how.

Wow... Jesse Purple Meyers has quite the extensive arrest background. Mostly drug arrest. Possession with intent to distribute... sometimes around schools. Unlawful possession of a firearm. Spanning 5 years. Wonder if this is the same guy?

Well what do you know... it is the same guy. DonJon, we are all better off without your life long friend on the streets. Sounds like the reason he had to "worry about this type of violence", as you put it, was that he was part of the problem.
DonJon, ever heard the term "Open mouth, insert foot"?

I think that it is time for the eliteist snobs that post on here realize that they aren't the only people who have computers and can read. There are lots and lots of people in the world that have a naer-do-well (or someone who made mistakes) in the family, and I am sure you would be mortified if you met this young man's family and they knew what you said. You are not alone in here - old white men, and many of the people you say nasty things about wouldn't like it if they met you. How about you act in here, as if you would act in public? I, for one, am sick of reading all of the ignorant comments. I already know that I live in an ignorant place, but I guess I try to forget that there are people around here that are that stupid.

lol@ Granny!!!
I like Coldbeer he is upfront and consistent with everything he has posted. You do a crime he wants you to go to jail or the death penalty. He has never said anything racist on this board (IMO). He is very upfront and I noticed some posters can't handle it. He has the same attitude for all criminals though. He can't stand them!!
AS far as the confederate guy goes he more than likely has seven screen names and has been posting on the PC since the PC allowed people to post. More than likely he is a little troll looking for attention. Ignore him he can't help it. He did not get enough of his mammy titty as a child and need that extra attention. :>)

Has anyone noticed that the ones that use the saying "don't judge me" or "you can't judge someone" has usually spent some time in front of a judge? I didn't notice any hateful or cruel words. Just real observations. There's no way that could have been me, as Shawn has said, because I don't live that lifestyle. If you want to live like a "gangsta" you just might die like one. I

I'm not sure how I can say this any more clearly. I have a wife and kids that I love and care for VERY much. I have a mom, dad, brother, sister and a whole bunch of in-laws (they are from Tennessee... man they have BIG families up there!) and I love them all very much too. I great everyone I meet with a smile and treat them as an equal. I have tons of friends and I really enjoy life. I am not a “hater”.
When it comes to criminals though, I have no patience and I see no need for them on this Earth. Why should I work hard, bust my butt to provide for my family (and millions of other families that require tax payer assistance to survive) so that some low life criminal can take what I have earned away from me? Why do I have to start each day hoping that some one I care for won’t come in contact with a dirt bag that wants to take the easy way out? As suec pointed out, everyone has a mom and a dad. Instead of bashing on me for saying something that might upset a dir bags mom or dad, maybe you should direct your anger at the dirt bag for being such a disappointment to his mom and dad.
As I said earlier, we’re better off without this guy running around in society. I believe that 100%. I’m sure his loved ones are saddened by the loss, and I offer my condolences to them, but the loss is his fault, not mine.
This particular man spent at least 5 years selling drugs, carrying a stolen weapon and getting caught... over and over again.
A stalker? Me? No… I’m already married to the only person I know worth devoting that much time and effort too.
I’m sorry you lost a friend and you are hurting. The bottom line though is that the world is now a safer place. His actions make this a fact, not my words.

My comment about that college grad was not meant to be critical of all girls that get pregnant while in school. It happens. I was trying to get across the point that I thought there was a better grad to write about than her. I know that there was a student who was battling cancer their whole 4 yrs. at C of C. My date was ... He was cute and all but his cell phone just kept ringing and ringing and I could tell he was talking in code so he is back in the river. I felt like I was on a date with the secret service the way he kept answering and talking on his phone and I just got a bad vibe about it. He will not work out. I don't feel like being the silly rabbit, tricks are for kids! I made it back home at 10:30 on a Friday night because I was not thrilled with my date. Called my girlfriend to see if she wanted to check out "Club Kush" and I saw my date at that club with another woman. :>) God works in mysterious ways!!! He was telling me to stay away from this man and now I know why I did not go on a date with him right away. WHY DO MEN FEEL LIKE THEY NEED TO DATE EVERY SINGLE WOMEN THEY RUN ACROSS OR MEET????
Posted by ColdBeer on May 14, 2008 at 9:49 a.m. (Suggest removal)
"back in the river"... classic <lol>.
When I was single, I tried to date every woman I met. Well, "date" may not be the correct word. Regardless, the woman always had my attention, not a cell phone, TV or my buddies. The vast majority of the dates didn't work out, but I did end up finding the woman that I'll spend the rest of my life with, so I think my "method" worked out great. Sometimes you go through a lot of fish before you find the keeper and the catch and release can be a lot of fun too :)
I guess I should clarify that cell phones weren't even being used when I was "dating"... I'm getting so fricken old!

i have too say that the majority of the comments were very imconsiderate to the mother.. no matter what kind of record that man had he was someones son. and maybe, just maybe he wasnt a bad person.. just made bad choices... i have a son who turned 19 yesterday. and has been struggling with drugs for a few years now. he has stolen from everyone around him including my father and that not only angers me it disgusts me..i cannot be around my own child because i dont condone the beavior and dont want to see him that way. he just got out of jail 2 weeks ago and had been in since aug 07. he got 2 5 year sentences suspended to 48 months probation, 96 hours community srevice and restitution... he did alot of bad things.. but i remember when he was fun 13 year old riding the go karts at dollywood or seeing his face the first time he saw the ocean.. that is my baby... and i love him. i hate what he does, i hate what he has become but my child nor anyone elses child deserves to die. every time i see a shooting on the news i hold my breath, paying its not my son. please take into consideration, that his mom or dad or grandma..who cant control or change how he lived but still loved him might log in to read..and such words of hate and anger and prejudice might pushthem over the edge.. might hurt them more than they are already hurting..
i understand 'live in the streets die in the streets" but it is never too late..until this happens and then it is too late.
i am proof you can change. i was that scum...useless in the street in jacksonville, i have been shot and stabbed.. and thankflly i didnt die.. and i woke up in time. yesterday i celebrated 13 years drug free and i now have a college education and live on the island in a nice home and a great job.so dont give up on people.. hope is all we have..
and quit being so picky about spelling people! lol

I noticed Shawn and this other guy is posting because they are in study hall and the teacher just walked out of the classroom. So they don't have much to do. They can't even say what the real problem is so that tells me they are here just to get a rise out of people. So I may have to do the same thing and put them on ignore. Especially if you talk to different people all the time on these blogs so some people become personally with one another but you will always have the clowns that can't help it!
Tammie- I have bad apples in my family too and thats what we were talking about at first. I do feel sorry for you because it seems like you tried, but all you can do now is advise and provide tough love. Nobody deserves to die unless you are an inmate on death row.

Sometimes people have to want to help themselves. This "thug" lifestyle is glorified in music, movies, video games, music videos, etc. They try to live this life, problem is, the life expectancy of someone in this "profession" isn't very old.

Everyone has a (or some) family members that go the other way. They are no reflection on the others in the family. Like Girly said, all you can do is give advice, when they get a certain age, they make their own decisions-good or bad. When they make the bad ones, they're going to have to pay the consequences. Maybe after they "pay their debt to society" a time or two, they realize that the costs are way too high.

Both my parents are alcoholics. My father died from it about 10 yrs ago. My mother will, too, one day. It's inevitable. I can't make her stop, and as an adult I don't need therapy to know as a child I couldn't do anything about it. I just know to have a relationship with her I know the times of day when she is least likely to be drunk and talk with her then. After all, she is the only mother I will ever have.

Trust me I don't feel bad. His odd behavior messed him up. I know exactly what you are talking about Allwoman and I had to go through that (telephone calls) with my ex husband ,and numerous other reasons, I don't want to be the other woman, the main woman, or the sidekick. LOL.
Forget- I could not help but to feel sad when I read your last post, but I'm happy to see that you are a well bodied adult and you don't have any grudges towards your mother.

I went through the phone thing with my ex-husband also. A note to add to the checklist of what to look for if your husband has a waitress at the Dog and Duck he has become fond of - A second cell phone shows up that you don't have the number of and of which the bill doesn't come to the house. And always went outside at the end of the driveway to talk on it.
Girly- what can you do but play the hand you're dealt. My 11 yr old daughter has never even seen granny when she's had too much. Timing is everything! Life's too short to hold grudges, that wears me out.

Girleygirl, always walk like a queen and remember... You are a PRIZE that only the most deserving man will win!

Allwoman, didn't you say you were divorce? it explains!

allwoman - conversation requires two people. You can't understand anything that either of them are talking about!

It also takes two to tangle, you lonely losers!

Wow, allwoman, You sure are far from being lonely! What are the age ranges? I bet you have non-stop activity in your house.

Well lonely Girleygirl. Perhaps if you start hanging out at an adult club instead of The Kush Lounge with those infants maybe just maybe you will find a decent M.A.N.!! Would you like me to get you tickets to go on the Dr.Phil show you sad pound puppy.

You don't find "men" at a club. Men aren't there. They are working, paying for and taking care of homes, getting up and going to work (not working thru a hangover). So therefore, you won't find many worthwhile men in clubs. You may go to the clubs to social with friends, but you find a worthwhile mate other places (most of the time).
Girly doesn't sound sad to me, she sounds like a girl that knows what she wants and won't settle for less. And she shouldn't. A girl has got to kiss alot of frogs before she finds her prince.

Forget- The sentence should go "You may go to a club to socialize with friends,".... Well it seems like she has kissed a lot of frogs in her day hope she has some breath mints...lol And how many baby daddy's do you have??
Posted by forget on May 14, 2008 at 3:24 p.m. (Suggest removal)
No, clubs is plural, meaning more than one. Which is the way I wanted it written. And I don't have any "baby daddys" the father of my child is termed husband. "Kissing alot of frogs" is an old saying, you quite probably have never heard it. Quite like the old saying "you have the right to remain silent" which you more than likely HAVE heard!

You all notice when they post crap? School is out so mommy's at work while they suppose to be using the internet for homework. You won't see them post from 530-9 pm because mom will be home , but as soon as she goes to sleep they posting crap. It's funny and sad at the same time because they don't know how to comprehend what they are reading. My gosh if they are in Berkley county I sware I am going to send a letter to all of the H.S in that county because they are not doing a good job. I bet they are 19 and in the 9th grade.
I never said I was trying to find a man in the club so PACT reviewing is not working for you two. SAD SAD SAD. You can remember the name off of a movie but can't recollect what was just written.....

allwoman, deon can count, he's counting the days he has left on probation. Pretty sure that's the same Deon Staley on the Chas. site. I mean, how many can there be?
How far along are you, allwoman? With you kids, and then add in friends, etc. you must have 12+ kids in your house most of the time!

They're 19 in the 9th grade because "the teachas they be hatin" on me". I have a friend that teaches middle school, that's a term she heard from a parent last week. The PARENT came in and said her son said he got suspended because "she be hatin' on him". Parent was serious.

Hey, you always know where your kids (and everyone else's) are at. I only have one, but there's always 4 or 5 more at my house every weekend. We've recently taken up baseball (she plays on a boys team) so that means we've expanded our group of friends by 10 more. So that means, more phone calls, kids stopping by, etc.. Not to mention snacks and drinks that are needed!

Lol @ Teachers hatin' on me. I can't believe a parent would actually say that to a teacher!

The bottom line here is that everyone is making jokes with, or about everyone else. That means a lot of smiles.
I also had a great, extra long lunch with my wife.
The world is already a better place with yet another drug dealer off of the streets, just as I said it would be :)

was wondering what happened to you CB. Haven't seen ChrisPia all week either.
Posted by forget on May 14, 2008 at 3:58 p.m. (Suggest removal)
she can tell some stories about what goes on in school now. They're funny but sad at the same time. One of my favorites was when one of the kids stole her cell phone, turned it on messing with it and forgot to turn it off. She realized her phone was missing, and of course nobody had it. It rang later in the day (ring tone was Superfreak) and a kid had it in his pants!

Where the heck is Doug Hoffman? ChrisPia is around...he was posting about the fire report but the PC has not written anything about Sherriff elections this week so that's why you haven't seen Chris much. I haven't seen NYdec either( I know I am messing up his name & I'm sorry). He usually post some interesting things and like to provide alot of facts with his arguments. Minority South does not post alot but I like to read his post as well.

You make me look like a slacker! And Girly, Sex and the City is out at the end of the month, we get to live vicariously through Carrie and friends once again. There's hope for single girls yet!

My wife refuses to put on short shorts and a white tank top and cut the grass while I watch, so I guess I'll be doing some yard work this afternoon.
