Bishops rip Andrew Jackson to advance

The Post and Courier

Class AA Boys' Soccer

If it seems that the grass is always greener in front of the Bishop England goal, it must be because all the action is taking place on the other end of the field.

That was the case Saturday at Jack Cantey Stadium as the Bishops' relentless assault on the Andrew Jackson goal went on for most of the 80-minute match and resulted in a 6-0 Bishop England victory in the Class AA boys' soccer playoffs.

"The result is good," said Bishop England coach Ed Khouri. "They did some good things. It was a good game for us trying to execute what we wanted to do."

Bishop England (15-5-2) advanced to the Lower State championship game, which will be played Tuesday at Bishop England. The Bishops will face Waccamaw, which advanced with a 2-0 win over Hanahan.

Andrew Jackson came into Saturday's game with a gaudy 19-1 record and a No. 4 ranking in Class AA, but the Vols could not muster a challenge to the top-ranked Bishops.

Bishop England took 30 shots to the Vols' two and dominated from start to finish.

George Khoury got the scoring started with a goal eight minutes into the game, with an assist by Elliot Peralta.

Zachary Epstein scored off an assist from Taylor Daylami with 10:33 to play in the half, and the Bishops reached halftime with a 2-0 lead.

In the second half, the Bishops really poured it on. Alvin Hooper scored on a penalty kick, Khoury added his second goal and David LeBlanc and Daylami each had a goal to round out the scoring.

Khouri substituted early and often and the last 15 minutes were played without a Bishop England starter on the field.

"We try to keep them hungry and sticking to the system," Khouri said. "It was pleasing for me to see the rest of the guys come in there and continue moving the ball.

"Our execution was good and I hope it spills over to our next match."
