Truck driver who left crash scene sought
HOLLYWOOD — Charleston County sheriff's deputies are looking for the driver of a red pickup truck they said left the scene of a crash Friday that badly injured a toddler.
Deputies know only that the truck had a partial South Carolina tag of 2494C, Lt. Jim Brady said.
The 3-year-old boy injured in the crash was flown to Medical University Hospital, Brady said. His name wasn't available. He was in a child safety seat, Brady said.
The crash happened after 2 p.m. at 5183 S.C. Highway 162 as three vehicles traveled toward S.C. Highway 165.
The child was in a Chevrolet HHR driven by his mother, Brady said. She pulled to the left to pass the red truck in front of her, he said. The red truck then also pulled to the left to pass a sedan ahead of it, Brady said.
The woman driving the Chevrolet swerved to avoid colliding with the truck, Brady said. Her car went into a ditch and overturned, he said.

Harpo - Sounding the horn is good idea but we'd have so much noise pollution around here folks would start ignoring those horns.
I think there's a combination of fault here. Two people trying to pass at once and neither really caring about the other. She ended up ditching and the other driver went on up the road not knowing something happened behind him/her.

That is the problem with Hwy 162. Too many people passing multiple vehicles because they are in a hurry. If they would have been more patient, the toddler would not have gotten hurt. SLOW DOWN PEOPLE OR LIFE WILL PASS YOU BY.

They don't say anything about the vehicle that they both wanted to pass?
Someone driving way under the speed limit and causing problems for others on the road?

It's a good thing they got a partial plate number. If they had to check out every red pickup truck in that portion of the low country, it would take them months.
