Three men were sentenced to life behind bars Friday just moments after they were found guilty of the August 2006 murder of aspiring music entrepreneur Sterling "Sterlo" Spann during a home invasion.

Spann, 19, of Lincolnville, was shot outside a home where he and a friend had just arrived to find a woman being beaten.

Sentenced to life were Leo C. Gadsden, 21, of Ferrera Drive in North Charleston; Anthony Dominique Wilder, 23, of Realm Street in Charleston; and Keive Milik Smith, 22, of Rose Lane in Charleston.

All were convicted on multiple felony counts, including murder, kidnapping and burglary. Their five-day trial concluded Friday afternoon at the Charleston County Judicial Center. The defendants showed no emotion as the guilty verdict was read in Spann's death.

After Spann was shot, the three suspects were arrested when their white Jeep crashed during a high-speed pursuit on Interstate 26.

Spann was known for performing, writing and producing rap music from a makeshift studio inside his house.

Why do they never say if the sentences are life with or without chance of parole?
I hate it when families have to go through the process of gathering signatures ever time one of these scumbags are up for parole. Life should be just that. SC has the death penalty, so why don't they spare the taxpayers and use it.
Contrary to popular belief, it is not more expensive to put someone to death.
