JAMES ISLAND — A hot-headed bank robbery suspect's plot was foiled Thursday when he wrote his stick-up note to the teller on the back of his own cell phone bill, police said.

About 9:20 a.m., a man walked into the S.C. Federal Credit Union on Folly Road near Fort Johnson Road. He poured a flammable liquid onto the floor, handed the teller a note and said he would burn down the bank if he didn't get the money, police said.

The teller did as instructed, and the robber walked out with an undetermined amount of money.

Police tracked the suspect down because he wrote the note on his cell phone bill, said Charles Francis, Charleston police public information officer.

Carl Lee Mikell, 41, of James Island, is charged with entering a financial institution with the intent to steal, Francis said.
