Georgia Southern edges Cougars in softball
State Report
Statesboro, Ga. — Despite getting a two-run homer by Shannon Howard and a solo shot by Katie Nutaitis, the College of Charleston (19-23, 5-1) lost 4-3 to Georgia Southern (21-21) Sunday in the finale of a three-game Southern Conference softball series.
Terri Mesko pitched a complete game in taking the loss for the Cougars, who won Saturday's two games. The Eagles scored two runs in the sixth to erase a 3-2 deficit.
College golf
Steffi Kirchmayr finished tied for third with a 221 individual total as the College of Charleston women placed 13th as a team at the Bryan Park Collegiate in Greensboro, N.C.
Florida won the team title with a 906 three-round total, two shots ahead of Duke in the 18-team field. The Cougars finished at 939. Kirchmayr shot a 69 in the first round. Fiona Puyo was next for C of C, tying for 64th at 242.
College sailing
The College of Charleston placed third in A division and fourth in B division to finish second at the Dellenbaugh Women's Trophy regatta in Providence, R.I. St. Mary's (Md.) won the event with 110 points. The Cougars totaled 159 points, and Tufts (165) was third in the 18-team field.
For C of C, Shannon Heausler and Dani Neri had 79 points in A division; Allie Blecher, Christina Murray and Hanna Watt had 80 points in B division.
