Summerville Inn makes Top 10
Kings Inn Bed and Breakfast at 207 Central Ave. in Summerville was chosen as a Top 10 Eco-Friendly Inn by the staff at BedandBreakfast.com. Kings Inn Bed is managed by innkeepers, Kristan Sagliocco and Joe Cicero.
In its selections, BedandBreakfast.com noted that Kings Inn's "varied gardens attract songbirds, butterflies, and other interesting wildlife for viewing from guest windows or piazzas."
Kings Inn is 22 miles from Charleston and is in a National Wildlife Federation Certified Wildlife Habitat. "Here, guests will find a vast and interesting array of plant species, native wildflowers, shrubs, and trees that provide a nurturing refuge for wildlife in the front and back gardens," BedandBreakfast.com stated.
"Guests help conserve energy and water by reusing linens and towels at their own discretion. All correspondence, including receipts, is emailed whenever possible in an effort to cut back on paper waste, and the innkeepers reward guests who show proof of ownership of hybrid vehicles with a 10 percent room discount," BedandBreakfast.com reported.
The only other inn in the South named to the list was Big Mill Inn of Williamston, N.C.
Scout honored for group home project
The Disabilities Board of Charleston County honored Greg Philip Ogden, a Fort Dorchester High senior, for completing a landscaping and beautification project at Mosstree Community Training Home II, a small group home operated by the board in North Charleston.
Ogden completed the project for his Eagle Scout assignment. He removed a palmetto tree, planted rose bushes, installed a bench and enclosed a crawl space below a deck with latticework. He was solely responsible for developing the proposal, projecting costs, fundraising efforts to buy supplies and recruiting the volunteer manpower.
Silly hat party to benefit AIDS services
Lowcountry AIDS Services will host the Spring Silly Hat Party on April 3 at Club Pantheon.
The party starts at 8 p.m. and proceeds from the door will go to Lowcountry AIDS Services.
The silliest, most outrageous hat will win a trophy and bragging rights. The night will be filled with dancing, and music will be provided by DJ Jesse. Admission is $20 with a hat, or $30 without. Representatives will also be on hand to distribute information about Lowcountry AIDS Services.
