Time for half-rubber training
Thursday, March 20, 2008
With baseball wrapping up spring training and beach season just around the corner, it's time for locals to fine-tune their half-rubber skills.
Half-rubber, which originated in Charleston or Savannah (depending on your locale), is a game that resembles baseball, but it's played with a half-sphere ball and a bat that resembles a broomstick. Some play it on the beach sand, others on grass and others will play on either surface.
Anyway, the first half-rubber tournament of the year is set. The seventh annual Man of the Sand Half-rubber Tournament will be May 17 and 18 on Folly Beach. A captain's meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. May 16 at the Holiday Inn lounge.
