Special events

12TH ANNUAL TOWN OF MOUNT PLEASANT ARTFEST: Noon-4 p.m. March 15 at Mount Pleasant Towne Centre. Free admission. Families may enjoy local bands and performers, art shows and craft exhibits, and a kids zone with children's games and craft stations. Contact Su McManus-Frost at 849-2061 or visit www.townofmountpleasant.com.

SPRING EGGSTRAVAGANZA: Noon-3 p.m. March 15 at Park West Pool. Fee: $5 per family. During this underwater egg hunt and spring festival, kids are invited to swim in the pool while gathering eggs. Participants are asked to bring their own basket/bucket to collect eggs. A limited number of life jackets are available for children who can't swim.

CLEMENT MOREY TENNIS TOURNAMENT: Open to men and women of all levels 2.5-5.0 and over. Competition in singles, doubles and mixed doubles. T-shirts and awards will be given to winners and finalists. March 28-30 at Mount Pleasant Tennis Complex. $35 singles/person; $20 doubles/person/event.

Youth classes

TAE KWON DO: R.L. Jones Center. Ongoing. Ages 6-12. Wednesdays, 6-7 p.m. $28 resident, $35 nonresident/month.

PAINTING THE COLORFUL WORLD CAMP: Children will open their eyes to the magical world of colors. Your child will create a masterpiece while learning about the basic elements of art. Ages 6-12. G.M. Darby Building. March 24-28 from 2-4:30 p.m. $60 resident/$74 nonresident. Instructor: Teresa Wooten.

FIRST AID/CPR/AED COURSES: 9 a.m.-4 p.m. March 15 at R.L. Jones Center. This course is designed for anyone in the community, schools or workplace. Participants will learn how to prevent, recognize and respond to an emergency appropriately, and how to perform basic first aid and CPR. For information on course materials, contact the R.L. Jones Center front desk at 884-2528. $60/resident; $74/nonresident.

Preschool

MUSIC ALIVE!: Ages 3-5. Class includes singing, playing instruments, musical games. G.M. Darby Building. 9:15-10 a.m. every Tuesday, March 18 to May 13 (no class March 25). $65 resident/$79 nonresident (eight-week session). $10 materials fee payable to instructor: Jessica Minahan.

SUPER POWERBOYS: Nonstop movement in this class. Group will use trampolines, tents, tunnels, inclined balance beam, balloons, hula hoops, balls and a variety of sports equipment. Group will learn tumbling, jumping, straddling and cart wheeling. Ages 3-6. R.L. Jones Center. Wednesdays, April 2-May 7, 4-4:45 p.m. $65 resident/$79 nonresident. Instructor: Kaylie Penninger.

LITTLE ILLUSTRATORS: Listen to popular children's stories and learn how to create an illustration. Group will use artistic media and experience various techniques to develop illustrations to take home. Ages 6-10. G.M. Darby Building. Fridays, 4-5:30 p.m. March 14, April 18 and May 16. $20 resident/$27 nonresident/class. Instructor: Karyn Bloomingburg.

Seniors

HORSESHOEs: New players needed. There will be weekly practices and a tournament. Free. Alhambra Park or Park West. Thursdays at 10 a.m. Tournament date is April 17. Call 856-2166 for location information.

SMART SENIOR II AARP SAFE DRIVER CLASS: 9 a.m.-1 p.m. March 17 and 18 at Park West Rec Complex. Fee: $10 per person for both days. Classroom driver refresher course designed for motorists 50 and older. The course is intended to help older drivers improve their skills while teaching them how to avoid accidents and violations. Participants receive a workbook and certificate, which can be turned in to their insurance company for a discount on their policy. Space is limited, and registration is required at 849-2061.

Athletics/Aquatics

HERSHEY DISTRICT TRACK MEET: 9 a.m. March 15 at Wando High School Track, Mount Pleasant. Athletes ages 9-14 compete in the local track meet for Hershey's Track & Field Games. Call 884-2528. Contact Jay Rhodes at 856-6076.

Aquatics

PADI DISCOVER SCUBA DIVING: 6-10 p.m. March 15 at R.L. Jones Center. Experience diving under the supervision of a PADI Professional in the pool. Participants will be introduced to basic scuba concepts. Instructed by the Atlantic Coast Dive Center (884-1500). Ages 10 and up. Fee: $45/resident; $52/nonresident.
