Statehouse to become U.S. Capitol in new Film

The state's second major feature movie this year will begin filming soon in the Midlands. It's a political satire in which the Statehouse doubles as the U.S. Capitol building and actor Jake Gyllenhaal plays an immoral congressman.

"Nailed" will shoot in Richland and Lexington counties. Actress Jessica Biel co-stars as an uninsured small-town receptionist who goes on a crusade to Washington to fight for the rights of the "bizarrely injured." Her character meets up with the congressman.

The announcement came Monday from the S.C. Department of Commerce and the state Film Commission, which said South Carolina was chosen for a number of reasons. Among them is that Persistent Entertainment, one of the film's producers, previously worked with the commission on a project filmed in York, Chester and Kershaw counties.

It also comes as some lawmakers want to change the industry incentives to give the state more filmmaking star power, a role at odds with the Commerce Department and the Governor's Office.
