Lieber inmate found dead in apparent suicide
RIDGEVILLE — The S.C. Department of Corrections was investigating an apparent inmate suicide at Lieber Correctional Institution, a maximum-security facility in this Dorchester County town near Interstate 26, the agency reported.
Lorenzo Rouse, 36, was discovered about 9 p.m. Monday hanging by a sheet tied to an air conditioning vent in his cell, according to a press release. Staff tried unsuccessfully to revive Rouse through mouth-to-mouth breathing. He was pronounced dead a short time later.
The Corrections Department said that Rouse started serving a sentence of 101 years and six months after being convicted of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature and four counts of assault and battery with intent to kill in Greenwood County in 1997.
