Richland Northeast's Bonds calling on Vols
PHIL KORNBLUT
Richland Northeast defensive end Chris Bonds (6-4, 283) is making an unofficial visit to Tennessee today and Tuesday. The trip actually coincided with a softball camp his sister is attending at UT, so he decided to go along and make a football visit. Bonds will meet with Vols head coach Phillip Fulmer this afternoon. He was scouted in the spring by Tennessee assistant Dan Brooks.
Outside of observing South Carolina's seven-on-seven tournament a couple of weeks ago, Bonds' hasn't visited any schools until today because of workouts at school and the ongoing rehabbing of his surgically repaired left knee. Bonds has not trimmed his long list of offers but said he has a top group of USC, Southern Cal, Michigan, Notre Dame and Alabama. And he said Miami, Michigan and Notre Dame likely will be three of his official visits in the fall.
In other football recruiting news:
QB Drew Little (6-5, 245) of McDonough, Ga., camped at USC earlier in the month and hopes he impressed Steve Spurrier enough to warrant an offer. "They need to figure out the deal with their quarterbacks," Little said. "They may sign two, one or none." Little also camped at Alabama, Ole Miss, Tennessee and Kentucky.
The Gamecocks have offered QB Morgan Newton (6-5, 215) of Indianapolis, as has Clemson. Newton has been to Illinois, Purdue and Kentucky this summer. He visited USC and Clemson in the spring and might return to the state later in the summer. Newton said some of the schools sticking out in his mind are USC, Clemson, Indiana, Purdue, Kentucky, Florida, Miami, Mississippi State and Penn State.
WR James Green (6-4, 200) of Tallahassee, Fla., visited South Florida over the weekend and plans to visit USC on July 21. USC remains a major factor and is in his top two with South Florida. Green also likes Auburn, Central Florida, Ole Miss and N.C. State.
DB Jerrodd Williams (6-0, 185) of Daniel did not receive an offer from Clemson, as he had hoped, while at a seven-on-seven passing league there last week. "They told me they are waiting on a couple of other corners and might offer during the season after watching my first two games," said Williams, who already has committed to Virginia Tech. "It doesn't bother me. I'm 100 percent with Virginia Tech."
USC offered DB Jimmy LeGree (6-0, 170) of Beaufort last week. He camped at USC and Clemson and plans to camp at N.C. State later in the month. He plays safety but is being recruited as a corner. Last season, LeGree had 70 tackles and six interceptions. He favors USC.
Clemson last week offered TE Desmond Parks (6-6, 215) of Greer, and he made an unofficial visit there Friday. He also camped at Clemson and Florida. Last season, Parks caught 29 passes for 403 yards and five TDs.

ATH Everett Proctor (6-2, 190) of Fayetteville, N.C., landed an offer from Georgia Tech last week. He also has offers from Maryland, N.C. State, UNC, Western Carolina, Illinois and Appalachian State. He's also being recruited by Clemson and USC and hopes to get to a camp at each. "Any school recruiting me as a quarterback is a favorite," Proctor said, and those are Georgia Tech, N.C. State, East Carolina, Appalachian State and Illinois. USC told him they would like to look at him in camp at the quarterback position.
WR Kendall Kelly (6-3, 215) of Gadsden, Ala., camped at Clemson, Texas and Auburn and will be going to LSU, Florida State, Florida and Alabama. Kelly is very interested in Clemson but has not narrowed his list from his 35 offers.
The favorites for DE Izaan Cross (6-5, 253) of Flowery Branch, Ga., are USC, Georgia Tech, Maryland, Oklahoma and N.C. State, but he calls that list fluid. He went to a one-day camp at Georgia Tech. USC and UCF, he said, are showing particularly strong interest.
TE Jim Teknipp (6-6, 230) of McDonough, Ga., has new hope of a USC offer with the deletion of TE Will Middleton from the commitment list. He talked recently with position coach Ray Rychleski. "They really like me and I feel pretty confident about an offer," Teknipp said. He has offers from UCF, Akron and Marshall. He's camped at USC, Kentucky and Tennessee.
DB Kayvon Webster (5-11, 180) of Miami camped at South Florida over the weekend. He also camped at LSU and Ole Miss and will go to Alabama in July. Former Clemson QB Tribble Reese is transferring to Charleston Southern where he will play out his final season of eligibility.
