Al Parish hospitalized
Prosecutors this morning said they would seek a 30-year sentence for the former economist

Former Charleston Southern University economist Al Parish was transported to the Medical University of South Carolina today, his attorney said. His condition and the circumstances were not known but he had been in the hospital this week where doctors addressed a heart condition.
The hospital visit came on the same day federal prosecutors asked that he receive more than 30 years in prison for his failed investment scheme, saying the toll goes far beyond a simple rip-off.
In court papers filed today just before the noon cutoff for all the Parish paperwork to be in, the U.S. Attorney's Office asked Chief Judge David Norton to sentence Parish at the top of the sentencing guidelines for fraud related to what investigators called a Ponzi scheme.

"While the guideline numbers are substantial, they have not taken into account the real tragedy that many victims now face stemming from their dealings with Parish," prosecutors wrote.
"Based on the amount of loss, but more importantly, based on the substantial impact that this crime has had on the numerous victims, the government respectfully requests that the defendant be sentenced at the top of the sentencing guideline range to a term of imprisonment for 365 months."
Parish's scheduled sentencing date is next Thursday.

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - The former sheriff of Robeson County will spend six years in prison for lying to a federal grand jury that was investigating corruption.
The Robesonian of Lumberton reports that U.S. District Court Judge Terrence Boyle sentenced Glenn Maynor on Thursday.
The former lawman pleaded guilty in September to one count of perjury and one count conspiracy. Prosecutors said in addition to lying to the grand jury, Maynor allowed deputies to be paid for working at his home and at an election campaign golf tournament.
Maynor faced up to 10 years in prison. He will report to start his term behind bars on Aug. 1.
The charges against Maynor stemmed from a 6-year investigation that has led to guilty pleas from 22 former Robeson County lawmen.

Here is food for thought when sentencing "Poor old AL"...a federal judge slapped Samuel Israel with a stiff sentence and stung him with harsh words.
"You were, in every meaning of the sense, a career criminal," U.S. District Judge Colleen McMahon said. "You ruined lives. Financial fraud, white-collar crimes are every bit as heinous as every other type of crime and they will be punished severely."
Lawyers for Israel had sought leniency, noting he's had numerous back operations and is addicted to painkillers. The judge had no compassion in her voice when she said, "He suffered from these ailments while he did the crime. He can deal with them while he does the time."

Don't question ChrisPia too much...it will only encourage him to spend all day copying and pasting pointless articles in these comments. I don't think anybody is really sure what his posts have to do with anything...

I'm sure that his heart is not hurting any more than the hearts of the people who's lives he ruined. Those that saved and lived right and tried to make a better life for themselves and their families. Isn't it funny how before he was caught he was admitted and now here he is ready to be sentenced and back in the hospital? I have no sympathy for a thief.

No doubt a pathetic attempt at delaying his sentencing. The coward needs to face the music...and his new friends in the pokey. Of course I won't miss this opportunity to say his WIFE SHOULD BE RIGHT ALONG WITH HIM! She is just as big as crook as he is.

Face the judge like a man. I do feel they should have put his wife in jail. When this story broke she fired the bookkeeper for not moving funds out of the accounts. The wife knew what was going on.

JohnQ - I agree that ChrisPia has the right to post about anything he wants and put forth his views and opinions. The point that I am making is that the story here is about Al Parish, and yet ChrisPia is posting about some Sheriff up in N.C. -NO connection to the story at hand here! And to top it all off, the story that he cut and pasted into his post - go back and look at it. At the bottom of the story is says "This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed." So, if ChrisPia is as smart as you thinkn he is, maybe he should reconsider cutting and pasting so much stuff in his posts when he is not supposed to!

JOhnQ - Thanks for your suggestions. How in the world Ray Nash ends in up posts about stories that have nothing to do with him is beyond me, but, whatever. As far as the Dorchester County Sheriff's race is concerned, I don't live in Dorchester County, therefore I did not vote in that race. I fully respect the voters decision there.
