NARFE 72

Chapter 72 of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association will meet Friday at Cherokee Place United Methodist Church, at Rivers and Cosgrove avenues. The 11 a.m. meeting will include speaker Air Force Col. John C. Milander, 437th Military Airlift Wing commander.

A covered-dish luncheon will follow. All current and retired federal employees and their spouses are invited. Call 571-0909.

Orchestra Guild

The Summerville Community Orchestra Guild will meet June 29 at 2 p.m. at the library on Trolley Road to celebrate two years of growth.

Annual reports and the election of officers will highlight the day in addition to awards and refreshments. The public is urged to attend and join the fundraising arm of the orchestra.

Legion Post 166

American Legion Post 166, Goose Creek, holds its general membership meeting on the third Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. Veterans and active-duty personnel are invited.

Genealogy

The June meeting of the Charleston Chapter of the S.C. Genealogical Society will be at 3 p.m. June 22 at the James Island Masonic Lodge, 1613 Fort Johnson Road.

The speaker will be Jane Aldrich, archivist for the S.C. Historical Society. Visitors and new members are welcome. Refreshments will be served after the lecture. Call 830-2392.

AARP meeting

AARP Charleston Chapter 267 will hold its monthly meeting at 10:30 a.m. June 27 in Mall Classroom 1 at St. Francis Hospital, 2095 Tecklenburg Drive, West Ashley.

Ophthalmologist Dr. Jay Thompson will speak on "Care of Your Eyes." Visitors are welcome. Call Martha Gomez at 762-1512 or Anne Alster at 762-2228.

GOP Women

The next meeting of the Charleston County Republican Women will be held 11:30 a.m. June 24 at the Country Club of Charleston.

The Americanism meeting will feature Gen. James Livingston, Medal of Honor recipient, as speaker.

The cost of the luncheon is $17. Guests are invited, and reservations must be made by June 19 by calling Kay Long at 556-1805 or e-mail klong1701@comcast.net.

Fiber Arts Guild

The Palmetto Fiber Arts Guild (www.palmetto fiberarts.org) will hold its monthly meeting 2-4 p.m. June 21 at The Meeting Place, 1077 Montague Ave., North Charleston. Denise Spanos will present a program on machine felting.

Airborne chapter

The Airborne Association, Swamp Fox chapter, meets the third Saturday of the month at 1 p.m. at American Legion Post 166, 116 Howe Hall Road, off Red Bank Road in Goose Creek.

The chapter is open to active and ex-military personnel of all branches of service who qualified to wear the "Jump Wings."
