DHEC: Raccoon found to be rabid

Mount Pleasant — The S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control is in contact with people who took a sick, baby raccoon to Veterinary Emergency Care on Sunday.

The animal, which was found on James Island, has tested positive for rabies, a DHEC spokeswoman said.

It is not yet known whether the two women who cared for the animal need treatment.
