Auburn eyes C of C coach

College of Charleston baseball coach John Pawlowski will interview today for the vacant head coaching job at Auburn.
"I will be going in for an interview," Pawlowski said Monday. "Auburn is a unique place and it's in one of the most prestigious baseball leagues in the country. But it would have to be something very special for me to leave the College of Charleston."
Pawlowski will interview with Auburn athletic director Jay Jacobs for the job left vacant after the season-ending resignation of coach Tom Slater.
Slater, 40, was 115-113 in four seasons at Auburn, which included a 43-77 record in the Southeastern Conference.
The Tigers made an NCAA Regional appearance in 2005, although they failed to make the eight-team SEC Tournament during Slater's tenure.
Charleston athletic director Joe Hull confirmed that Auburn contacted him about Pawlowski.
"Permission was asked for by Auburn to talk with John and granted from the College," Hull said. "John is a terrific baseball coach and I hope he remains the baseball coach at the College Charleston for a long time."
Pawlowski, 44, has coached nine seasons at Charleston, compiling an overall record of 338-192-1.
During Pawlowski's tenure, the Cougars have won three Southern Conference regular season titles and one SoCon Tournament title and made three NCAA Regional appearances, including an NCAA Super Regional appearance in 2006.
A native of Johnson City, N.Y., Pawlowski was a standout pitcher at Clemson and pitched seven seasons in the major leagues.
Pawlowski also interviewed for the Auburn job four years ago before the Tigers ultimately hired Slater.

It is inevitable that Coach P. will land somewhere other than the College of Charleston. When he does, I hope the new athletic director will have the good sense to hire Scott Foxhall for the job.
I don't know whether lack of fan support plays a part here, but it puzzles me why a school that easily gets 3,000 + to basketball games can't get 100 people to some baseball games. It is a great product and has been for a long time.
Baseball is clearly treated as an afterthought by the athletic department and administration at the College of Charleston. Yeah, I know about the new stadium. Who made the "brilliant" decision to reduce the radio broadcasts for the baseball team?
