Moody will not run for school board; Fraser announces candidacy
Charleston County School Board member Brian Moody announced on Monday that he will not seek a fourth term, and he gave his support to commercial real estate broker and developer Chris Fraser for one of the two at-large West Ashley seats in the November school board election.
Moody, who's served on the board for nearly 12 years, said he'd like to run for office but his accounting firm prohibits its partners from holding elected positions.
"It's time for someone else to take over," he said.
Moody unequivocally endorsed Fraser, president of the Grubb & Ellis/Barkley Fraser firm, for his seat.
Fraser is a familiar face within the education community. He's served on the Mount Pleasant constituent school board and once ran for a seat on the county board. He's served as chairman of the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce's Education Foundation for the past two years and served as a mentor, volunteer and participant in the Principal for a Day program.
John Graham Altman, who held office for 30 years as a state lawmaker and school board member, also has announced that he plans to run for one of the West Ashley seats.

REAL LEADERSHIP PUTS THE GOALS OF THE SCHOOL BOARD ABOVE ALL ELSE
if we sold all the buildings and got out of the development business and then applied all that money towards education based expenses we would have the richest school board in the USA and then we could focus on education instead of development.
let private businesses provide facilities and the school board could rent the buildings and get rid of that whole bunch of those lazy school board maintenamce workers . They could all work for the new owners that would have to keep the building up to par or else the rent would be reduced or witheld.
I know this sounds radical but imagine the taxes we would save.
The private sector would be the best form of providing facilities.
Not to mention we could afford the very best teachers and adminstrators who would work to keep their high paying jobs...wow what a concept private enterprise
SOOOO WHAT DO YALL THINK ABOUT SUCH A CONCEPT...THINK ABOUT IT!!
