Porter-Gaud freshman Thompson earns all-star honors

Elizabeth Thompson, a freshman at Porter-Gaud, finished third overall in the Women's South Carolina Golf Association Junior Championship on Thursday at Oldfield Golf Club in Okatie and earned a spot on the South Carolina team that will face a team of Georgia juniors next month.

Thompson shot 79-73-82—234, six shots behind winner Rachel Uremovich of Hilton Head. Taylor Weaver of Spartanburg finished second overall with a score of 229, while Vanessa Koechli of Greer tied with Thompson for third.

The top four players earned spots in the all-star competition. Just missing was Katie Rose Higgins, 16, of Charleston, who was fifth with a score of 235.

Thompson also won the 13-15 age group.

Bradshaw wins S.C. Junior

Thomas Bradshaw of Columbia went wire-to-wire to win the South Carolina Golf Association Junior Championship played at the Country Club of Lexington, shooting 6-70-69—205, seven shots better than runner-up Hayden Letien of Sumter. Kamito Hirai of Summerville was third at 213. Hirai earned a spot for the boys' Georgia-S.C. team matches

Jackson Moore of Isle of Palms finished third in the boys' 13-14 age division with a score of 225.

Golf League champions

Randy Hopkins and Dan Moylan won the Monday League title and Fritz Missel and Al Hammons won the Thursday League title in The Golf League's spring tournament in a 27-hole Ryder Cup-style competition. Liebler wins Santee Am

Steve Liebler shot 67-70—137 to win the Santee Amateur title. Chris Couch finished second with a score of 73-72—145, while Mike Cobb was third at 72-74—146. Liebler's son, Chase, won the Championship B Fligh with a score of 151; Mike Aston was the First Flight winner with a total of 154; and Steve Blackburn won the Second Flight with a score of 162.

Marion Moore won the Senior Championship with a score of 144, four strokes in front of Nick Avery and Jerry Johnson. Donald Hardy was the Senior First Flight winner with a score of 152; Danny Hammonds won the Senior Second Flight with a score of 165; and Mike Ragan won the Senior Third Flight with a score of 175.

-- The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour, a regional circuit for boys and girls ages 12-18, will play an event June 17-18 at the Links at Stono Ferry.

-- Cougar Point at Kiawah Island Golf Resort will hold a local qualifier June 21 for the PGA McGladrey Team Championship. The entry fee for the event is $55 per player.
