Postorino to be promoted
CLEMSON Oliver Purnell appears to be looking from within to replace departed assistant Shaka Smart.
According to sources familiar with the situation, Purnell is expected to promote Josh Postorino to fill the position vacated by Smart, who recently left for Florida.
Postorino, who spent the 200708 season as Clemson’s director of basketball operations, was the first player Purnell signed when Purnell was at Dayton in 1995.
The 30-year-old Postorino spent a short time at Clemson when Purnell took over the Tigers in 2003, but he left with Ron Jirsa to coach at Marshall.
Neither Postorino nor Purnell could be reached for comment Sunday.
Purnell spent last week on vacation in Jamaica.
