Three men held up a Dorchester Road convenience store at gunpoint and forced employees into a cooler this morning, North Charleston police said.

Officers responded to the robbery at the El Cheapo near Interstate 26 around 7:45 a.m.

Employees told police that the trio entered the store with handguns, Spencer Pryor, the Police Department's public information officer, wrote in an e-mail. Police did not disclose the amount of money taken.

There were no known links to another convenience store robbery the night before.

In that holdup, a man walked into the Hess Station on 5777 Dorchester Road, near Michaux Parkway, around 8:30 p.m. Sunday and asked for a pack of cigars, Pryor wrote. The man showed the clerk a handgun and left the store with an undisclosed amount of money.

Police described the Hess robber as a black man with his hair in dreadlocks and a full beard. He wore black shorts and black shoes and had a red shirt draped over his shoulder.

In Monday morning's robbery, no specific description was available of the suspects, described as one black man and two Hispanic men.

Anyone with information about the robbery suspects is asked to call North Charleston police at 554-5700 or Crime Stoppers at 554-1111.
