An apparent American crocodile suns near some turtles on the bank of a pond off Marsh Grove Avenue in Mount Pleasant. This crocodile is believed to have been captured in the surf at Isle of Palms Friday.

Isle of Palms—Rip currents, sea nettle jellyfish, stingrays, sharks — looking for one more excuse not to set foot in the surf?

Crocodile.

An apparent American crocodile, at least a six-footer, was pulled from the beach surf Thursday at Isle of Palms after eluding trappers for weeks in a Mount Pleasant pond. Most likely it escaped or was released by someone who illegally brought it up from its far southern Florida habitat, said Steve Bennett, of S.C. Natural Resources. But not necessarily.

It might have swum up from Gold Coast.

"It's not as ludicrous as you think. These are crocodile. They are not American alligators. These are salt water animals," he said. Crocodile have been known to swim back and forth between the Florida Keys and Cuba.

Man...shoot. Now I can't pick on my friend Tiffany anymore when she tells her husband Robbie not to let the crocodiles get us when we are out on Lake Moultrie.
