Charleston police descended in force on the Ashleyville neighborhood of West Ashley Monday morning to arrest two suspects in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred over the weekend..

Shortly before 7 a.m., at least 10 police vehicles and several officers wearing SWAT gear were present at an apartment building on Battery Avenue. The site is less than half a block from where 25-year-old Calvin Tyrell Gibbs Jr. was fatally shot around 11 p.m. Friday.

One of the suspects was taken into custody on Battery Ave., and the other was taken into custody on nearby Tripe St., said Charles Francis, the department's public information officer.

The police expect to release more information about the investigation and the identities of the suspects later today, Francis said.
