Roulette rolls to billfish title

GEORGETOWN — Roulette, captained by Mike Glaesner and owned by Richard Pingree, piled up the points on Saturday's final day of the Georgetown Blue Marlin Tournament. The boat, which is homeported in Beaufort, caught and released three blue marlin and a white marlin Saturday to go along with a sailfish on Thursday and finished the tournament with 2,300 points.

Dem Boys, which caught two blue marlin Thursday, hung on for second place with 1,200 points. Dem Boys is owned by Tommy Hancock and captained by Reid Bost. Overspray, owned by Foster McKissick and captained by Mike McClamrock, also finished with 1,200 points for two blue marlin releases but the tiebreakere went to Dem Boys.

In the non-billfish categories, the top tuna was a 14.1-pound blackfin caught by Richard Gaston on Due Course; the top dolphin was a 59.9-pound catch by Kathy Baxley aboard El Tejano; and the top wahoo was a 49.4-pound catch by Cantey Smith aboard Artemis.

Baxley was the top female angler, while Lauren Leasure, aboard Summer Girl, was the top youth with two dolphin that weighed 57.1 pounds.

The 53 boats participating in the event released 34 billfish — 21 blue marlin, four white marlin and nine sailfish. No billfish were brought to the dock in the tournament.

The next event in the South Carolina Governor's Cup Billfishing Series in the Charleston Harbor Resort and Marina Billfish Tournament, which will be fished June 26-28.
