North Charleston wants to annex 168 acres near Cathedral of Praise

North Charleston hopes to annex 168 acres on 13 parcels on and around the Cathedral of Praise church on Ashley Phosphate Road. Most of the properties, including 50 acres owned by the church, are not adjacent to city limits because they border Windsor Hill and Stratton Capers subdivisions in Dorchester County. Neither subdivision is inside city limits. The city is using a 91-acre tract off Dorchester Road near Franchise Street and two small undeveloped parcels owned by Word Christian Center on Ashley Phosphate Road to get to the church property and another parcel near Windsor Hill. The church has not asked to be annexed but does not plan to oppose being brought into the city because it does not pay taxes, said Curtis Martin, who handles building operations for Cathedral of Praise.
