Richburg Mayor McCrorey dies
RICHBURG — South Carolina's longest serving mayor, John McCrorey of Richburg in Chester County, has died.
Town clerk Debbie McMinn said the 91-year-old mayor died late Thursday in a Charlotte hospital. McMinn said McCrorey fell at his home last Sunday and could not recover.
McCrorey's funeral will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Richburg United Methodist Church.
Town officials said McCrorey became mayor of Richburg in 1967.
The town of around 320 people last re-elected him in 2007.
McCrorey is survived by his wife, Juanita; three children; and three grandchildren.
The executive director of the Municipal Association of South Carolina, Howard Duvall Jr., told The Herald of Rock Hill that E.T. Moore of Snelling in Barnwell County is now the longest serving mayor.
