Folly Beach City Council will reconsider a decision it made Tuesday to ban alcohol sales from 2 to 6 a.m.

Council member Laura Beck, who voted in favor of the ban, made the request today.

The move allows the two affected businesses, Bert's Supermarket and Kangaroo, to begin selling beer and wine again in the early morning hours, at least until Aug. 24 when the ordinance goes back to council.

Beck said she and at least one other council member didn't realize the law would go into effect immediately. She said that, at the least, she would like the law's starting date moved to January so that the businesses have time to adjust.

She also said a fair number of residents contacted her to say they were worried about the alcohol ban causing an increase in DUIs.

"I don't want to flip flop, but I think I need a little more time."
