Kristy Lee Cochenour
MOUNT PLEASANT Police arrested a driver on felony drunk-driving charges after a crash that killed a motorcyclist on Rifle Range Road Wednesday night.
Robert Todd Guerry, 46, of Awendaw died from injuries sustained in the 7 p.m. wreck near the Harborgate Shores neighborhood.
Kristy Lee Cochenour of Mount Pleasant had been driving a 1992 Acura Vigor when she pulled in front of Guerry’s motorcycle while making a left turn from Rifle Range Road into Harborgate, a police report says. Guerry was thrown from his motorcycle. Afterward, a Chevrolet pickup hit his motorcycle from behind.
An officer who started questioning Cochenour at the scene immediately noticed a strong smell of alcohol, according to his report. The 43-year-old’s eyes were glassy and bloodshot. Later, she failed field-sobriety tests.
The officer had Cochenour’s blood drawn at East Cooper Regional Medical Center, then drove her to the jail, the report says. On the way there, she told him she had five beers during the day: an open beer left over from the night before when she woke up around 6:30 a.m., two more between 8:30 and 9:30 a.m., and two more with her daughter at the bar at A Dough Re Mi Pizzeria around 5:40 p.m. The bartender at A Dough Re Mi disputes this account, and says Cochenour was served only one beer at the establishment.
Cochenour's bond was set at $100,000. She remained at the Charleston County Detention Center Thursday afternoon.
A 10-year driving history from the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles shows no moving traffic violations on her record.

Sheeesh...woman driver. And drunk on top of that!

I'm glad to hear that they have arrested and charged this woman. It probably happened so quickly that the pickup driver did not have time to react. That is just an assumption on my part, as I don't know really what took place.

7:00pm and already drunk. Should've kept her dumbazz at home; but no, she had to go out and drive. She'll have plenty of time to think about now.

They don't call'em donorcycles for nothing.
I'm curious what her BAC was.

Probably right at the legal limit. Don't you just love how they leave information out?

Wow-a drunk woman pulls out in front of him first, then he gets blasted by a tailgater! Maybe the laws/rules have changed, but I thought you were supposed to keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front of you. I believe that you are supposed to have enough room that you can stop, even in the case of a sudden stop by the vehicle in front. Tailgating seems to be the fashion nowadays. Either way, my heart goes out to this man and his family and friends. Riding a motorcycle with the general public nowadays is just plain dangerous! I guess if you have to ride, you have to ride-but to me, my life is worth more than feeling the wind on my face. I'm not against motorcycles at all, but man it's just way to dangerous nowadays-too many idiots out there. Damn!

Wow - 3 beers before 9:30 am. Sounds like she has a serous problem. She needs to be off the streets!

it goes both ways. Motorcyclist tailgate just as bad as cars....and usually they don't have helmets on. Most of the cyclists are either fat, old and/or ignorant(no helmet)....and they have some middle age bleach blonde on the back to keep the tires on the road. Some of you need to grow up and get your thrills another way....maybe 4 wheel rocking chairs. If you people knew how ridiculous you look decked out in your motorcycle gang wanta be leather. You guys should pend your money getting the weight off your fat old lady.

SCHoser:
Oh my gosh, TELL ME ABOUT IT!!
Tailgaters---it just amazes me to have it happen to me almost everyday in rush hour traffic. Getting up on my bumper will NOT make me go faster, considering I'm already going 10 miles over the limit. It's called the FAST LANE which is immediatly to your LEFT. Geeze.
I'm all about giving at least 2 cars lengths in between me and the car in front of me. That's what I learned in Driver's Ed. We all know how everybody likes to slam on their brakes on 26. Esp. west bound at the Mark Clark.

Sad from him and his family. It seems simple enough, but people just can't resist the "Seductive Siren" of driving a vehicle after drinking.
As far as tailgaters go, I simply slow to the speed limit and if they get closer, I slow even more. If they still don't get the message, I tap my brakes gently as a sign to back off. For the ones who think I'm giving them options....well guess they are right.
A few years ago, a lady pulled out of Charbucks and proceeded to get in close trail formation with my bumper. After steps one, two and three above, she was still on my bumper. After I slammed on my brakes, she was wearing her cup of Charbucks! I hope she got the point, but I doubt it.

g4driver-I am with on the steps! Charbucks....that's good that she got what she deserved. People who get right on my bumper make me nervous, so I HAVE to slow down then. As soon as they try to get around me, I get my nerve back up and can drive again! I love it when they get all pissy...makes me laugh. Seriously-I just wish people would take care and pay attention. Trying to get home or any where else 3 minutes earlier is not worth anyone's life!

It is unfortunate this event happened at all. I am a little skeptical about her beer drinking story. For someone who drinks her breakfast you would think she could handle it better than this...sounds fishy to me.
I am sure the BAC levels will be released before too long. That would tell just how drunk she was. It doesn't take much, does it?
I don't think he was hit again by the truck if he was thrown from the bike. Is this correct?
Posted by SCHoser on July 24, 2008 at 4:28 p.m. (Suggest removal)
You may be right laces-I reread, and it does say he was thrown and that the truck hit his motorcycle. Still sucks no matter how ya slice it....I feel for the family of all involved. Lives lost and thrown away for the sake of a "FEW" drinks. I feel confident to call anyone who starts drinking at 6:30 in the morning-and to drink an open one at that-a damn drunk! Something tells me this was only a matter of time before she hit and killed someone.

when I am on the freeway and some idiot is riding my bumper, my favorite thing to do is blast my window wash, they back off pretty fast.

Another sad scenario prompted by incompetent driver's. Today in MTP someone on 17S was riding so close behind me, trying to make me speed up and I was already going 50 miles and hour, the speed limit. Two woman in a green SUV laughing and bobbing in and out of traffic like they were playing a game. How stupid. I guest they were rushiing to get their daily drink on at the local happy hour.
Law enforcement please be on the look out for these types of scofflaws. They are endangering our lives.Law abiding citizens.

She started the day with a leftover beer from the night before. how big of drunk do you have to be to drink flat, warm beer. Might of even had a few cig. butts in it.

Todd was a genuinely good guy with a great sense of humour. He would help people out even when not asked. He had a high moral conscience and I would have trusted him with my children's lives. He was an extremely hard worker who worked me into the dirt every time I attempted to keep up with him even though he was 8 years older. He very rarely had a negative word to say about anyone. He was a true Charlestonian gentleman. Every time you saw Todd pull up on his bike you knew that you were about to spend some time laughing your ass off. I will miss hearing his bike, which he built himself, turning onto my road. I will miss his overly aggressive handshake (felt like shaking hands with a lobster). I will miss our guy talks Me:"Wanna beer?" Todd:"Yeah". I will miss.....my friend.
This woman took my friend's life. I do not feel that she should ever be allowed to be free again. Todd's family and friends should never have to worry about seeing her walking the streets a free woman.

junkman and scnative, you are both idiots for making the comments you did. I'm a Motorcycle Safety Foundation RiderCoach and this is something I warn the riders in my classes about all the time: beware of cars making left hand turns in front of you. This is usually where they get us. I'm so sorry to hear about Todd and my condolences to his family and friends. Again, junkman and scnative, you are idiots!

What a piece of work, nothing says loser like drinking an open beer from the night before, at 6:30am.
Sorry for your loss lansotto.
People please be careful on the roads. I'm sure this broad had more than "a few" cold ones but we've all(all of us that drink anyway) driven after literally just a few and sometimes that's all it takes to miss that one headlight.

I still love my"baby sister" no matter what .It is just a shame what the wrong decisions bring to all of us! I love you always Kris I'm here always sis.It is a darn shame what this has done to both families due to this terrible accident!!!!

I had the blessed experience of knowing Todd as one of my baby brothers. He was a blessing to be around and all who knew him, loved him. Todd would only want something good to come out of his death. Please, all of you, think before you take that next drink. You don't want to put your family and friends in the position that we are in and you don't want to be in the position that the driver of the car is in. If you have to drink, drink responsibly and call a friend to drive you home. Please pray for my family and for Kris and her family. We are all suffering. Forgiveness and prayers are what we need. God's blessings to you and yours.

Aloha from Maui.
This is my Aunt you folks are judging. It truly is a shame that you sit in the comfort of your home hiding behind your computer to harshly judge her without even knowing her personally. If you met her in person would you have the audacity to speak these things aloud to her? May I also remind you that he was her FRIEND. Imagine what it must be like to know for the rest of your life that you accidentally killed your friend.
I don't think that drinking and driving is a good choice, but I'm sure you've done it at least once in your lifetime and you're lucky you didn't hurt anyone when you did it or you could be in the same dark place.
I constantly think about how my Aunt can not eat because other prisoners steal her food and how she can not sleep because she has nightmares about the accident. I think about how she has not even met her grandchildren yet and the fact that she may never meet them. I think about the great person she is and how kind she is to people. I think about her everyday and I hope she will be able to make it through this depressing and horrible time in her life without it affecting her happy-go-lucky spirit that I've always admired.
