Cerveza, going for its third straight win in the South Carolina Governor's Cup Billfishing Series, has the early lead in the Bohicket Marina Invitational Billfish Tournament. The 62-foot Paul Spencer custom sportfisherman out of Pirate's Cove, N.C., released four sailfish today and garnered 800 points. Cerveza, which leads this year's Governor's Cup, is owned by Tom Russell of Reston, Va., and captained by Butch Davis.

Three boats earned 600 points on the opening day of the tournament. Based on time, El Tejano, a 57-foot Bertram owned by John Hill, is second with a blue marlin release by Kathy Baxley. Daymaker, owned by Mark Daniels of Georgetown, is third with three sailfish releases while Rascal, owned by Norman Pulliam of Spartanburg, is fourth with three sailfish releases.

A highlight of the day was a new state record dolphin caught aboard Daymaker. The 77.5-pound fish was caught by Ryan Riggs.
