'Shark Week'

Tuesday, July 22, 2008

"Shark Week," the Discovery Channel's summertime ritual, comes of age as it celebrates its 21st season this year from Sunday through Aug. 2.

It kicks off at 9 p.m. Sunday with the two-hour "Mythbusters: Shark Special." Shark programs will air all week long from 7 p.m. to midnight each day, including six all-new premieres as well as memorable programs from years past.

In addition, the S.C. Aquarium will sponsor its own Shark Week.

Families can sit in on shark-themed educational shows and interactive activities, talk to scuba divers or hear tips on how to survive a shark attack. Adopt and support the sand tiger shark at the aquarium and receive a customized Shark Week adoption certificate. Upon arrival, sign up for a behind-the-scenes tour of the Great Ocean Tank.

Shark Week activities are free with general admission. Behind-the-scenes tours of the Great Ocean Tank are $10 per adult and $5 per child (ages 11 and under). Call 577-FISH (3474) for information.
