Firefighters say a child playing with a lighter started a fire at this home on Meeting Street Road. Watch »
A child playing with a lighter started a fire that displaced two adults and two other children from a North Charleston home on Tuesday morning, firefighters said.
Crews responded to the fire at 2672 Meeting Street Road at 7:43 a.m. and extinguished the flames in about five minutes, Battalion Chief Eric Phillips said. The occupants all escaped unhurt.
Though little damage was visible from outside, two adults and three children who live in the house had to seek temporary shelter from the local branch of the American Red Cross. Phillips said the children were 6 years old and younger.
