Motorcyclist dies in Colleton wreck

Tuesday, July 22, 2008

A 43-year-old man was thrown off his motorcycle and killed on Pierce Road near Cottageville on Sunday afternoon after running off the right side of the road and hitting a tree, authorities said.

Daniel Thomas Cecil of Ridgeville lost control of a 2007 Honda after going around a curve and died at the scene, Colleton County Coroner Richard Harvey said.

Cecil was the only person involved in the 4 p.m. wreck, said Lance Cpl. Trevor Clinton of the Highway Patrol.

The Highway Patrol said Cecil was not wearing a helmet, though the coroner said wearing one might not have prevented the fatal injuries.
