COLUMBIA Members of a House study committee met Tuesday to discuss an approach to changing the way the state funds public education. Rep. Jeff Duncan, R-Laurens, said the committee is charged with "untangling the knot" and finding a way to overhaul the state's more than 30-year-old education funding formula. Giving the districts flexibility in how they spend money is one of the keys, said Duncan, who is leading the committee. The committee members also discussed eliminating the local contribution and funding schools 100 percent from the state level. Rep. Annette Young, R-Summerville, said she could never support that idea because it would mean raising taxes. To find out more about what was discussed and future plans for the committee, check out The Post and Courier tomorrow.
