Marshals net 40 in area roundup A bank-robbery suspect and a man wanted on a charge of pointing a firearm were among the local fugitives captured during the U.S. Marshals' recent Operation FALCON roundup, the agency said. Marshals worked with local law enforcement to make more than 19,000 arrests nationwide between June 22 and 28. The 471 arrests in South Carolina during the seven-day operation included 37 sex offenders as well as gang members and violent offenders, a release says. Authorities recovered 10 guns in the state. Marshals and local officers made 40 arrests in the Charleston area, said Deputy U.S. Marshal Tim Stec in Columbia. A man suspected of holding up a Summerville bank last month, 21-year-old Tyrel Collins, was arrested June 25 in the parking lot of a Rivers Avenue auto-parts store, Stec said. Arrested at the same time was a man wanted by North Charleston police on a warrant for pointing and presenting a firearm, he said. FALCON stands for federal and local cops organized nationally. Since its inception in 2005, the effort has tallied more than 36,500 arrests and served more than 45,300 warrants.
