Driver's license coated with cocaine, police say

Staff report
Friday, July 18, 2008

Charleston police said a nervous driver made the mistake of handing an officer a cocaine-coated driver's license when pulled over Thursday morning for a traffic violation.

The car caught the officer's eye at 12:40 a.m. in the area of East Bay Street when the driver turned without using a signal, a report stated. The officer wrote that the driver then failed to completely stop at a stop sign, and drove left of a center yellow line.

The officer described the driver as nervous — "breathing very heavy, sweating, shaking and unable to speak clearly." A report detailed how the driver's hand trembled as he handed over his driver's license, which the officer noted was covered in a white powder similar in appearance to cocaine. The officer then noticed three white items between the driver's thighs, a report stated.

The substance on the license and from the driver's seat tested positive for cocaine, the report stated.

Police arrested Frank R. Boals, 21, of River Landing Drive in Charleston, on a charge of possession of cocaine. Bail was set at $5,000. The officer also issued Boals a summons for reckless driving. Boals was still in the Charleston County Detention Center Thursday evening.

Frank had a headache and spilled his BC powder, which as we all know looks a great deal like cocaine:all over his lap... and license. Who among us does not travel with BC powder?

Andy [Savage] if you're reading this, you can have that one free of charge.

lesson
when you cut up your coke, use something that will never be handed to a police officer.

stupid? of course. but we've all done stupid things at that age, especially when we are nervous. he's young, let him go.
His coke habit didn't hurt anybody, and you CAN drive under the influence of coke, just like riddlin, aderol, or caffeine.
It's the same thing, except it's just a little more addictive.

Mr. Boals, you should not be doing this while driving because you will give the legalization supporters a bad name. You need to wait until you get home. Your arrest in this case is not unjustified for being impaired. Next time when at home use your grocery store card instead. You might mess up their machines if you do not clean it so be thoughtful. Remember this: "Don't be a dope clean your card of coke."

Um, if cocaine were not illegal no one would be killing for it either. What's more, the people killing each other don't do it for the cocaine generally, they do it for the turf to sell the cocaine on. You don't see liquor stores shooting it out over who sells where because it's legal.

If you look back at prohibition the exact same thing was happening. Capone, Dutch Shultz, the Mafia, all became rich and murdered each other for the turf, not for the alcohol. LEOs were killed, innocent bystanders killed, bad guys killed, and almost all over the turf to sell it on.

When prohibition was repealed that part of the problem went away that easy...so your solution to the exact same problems created by the exact same prohibition is to continue it. Nice.

Isn't that the definition of insanity?

Amsterdam has one of the lowest crime rates in the world. Why? Almost everything is legal there. Not only is it legal, but the Government produces it, which makes money for the city (and country for that matter).

But it's not just the legalization that would drop the crime rate. European police are allowed to do a lot more than U.S. officers.

I say get off the cops' backs and legalize a few drugs...see what happens. If all is well, leave it. If all is not well, repeal it.

DoaMM - far from true "Amsterdam has one of the lowest crime rates in the world. Why? Almost everything is legal there"

In the Netherlands there's a distinction made between so-called soft drugs and hard drugs. Hard drugs are Cocaine and Heroin, LSD, Ecstasy etc., soft drugs are basically marijuana, hash and mushrooms. While possession and use of the hard drugs maybe tolerated compared to the U.S. they are quite illegal and not condoned socially or by the police. Don't be the tourist arrested for buying illegal drugs on the street. Even with the soft drugs there are strict rules concerning possession and marketing.

Dutch law make a clear distinction between hard drugs (drugs with unacceptable risks involved) and soft drugs (drugs with limited risks). Hard drugs are illegal and sentences run up to 12 years imprisonment. Strictly speaking the sale and use of soft drugs is illegal too, but use and possession for personal use (up to 30 grams) a blind eye is turned and you will not be prosecuted. The Dutch government believe by keeping soft drugs separate from other drugs it makes it possible to control it more and therefore stop people turning to harder drugs and hopefully away from crime and addiction..
