Bipolar Alliance to hold meetings

The Berkeley chapter of the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance will hold meetings every Wednesday from 7 to 8 p.m. through July.

Meetings are currently held at St. James United Methodist Church in Goose Creek, 512 St. James Ave. But beginning Wednesday, Aug. 6, the DBSA will move next door to the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at 510 St. James Blvd. in the All Ministers Building.

Follow the church entrance drive to the big building in the back. Meetings will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in room 5.

A second room is available for family members of those with depression or bipolar disorder to meet separately with a qualified facilitator.

Ministries holds community forum

Inner City Ministries Inc. and Heaven 1390-AM radio will hold an annual community forum at 7 p.m. July 28 at Inner City Ministries, 2060 Harley St., North Charleston.

Special guests and panelists will include North Charleston Police Chief Jon Zumalt; Bill Jenkins, director of the Father to Father Project; radio personality Geno Jones; Eva Smith, chaplain at Charleston County Detention Center; Charleston Police Chief Greg Mullen; the Rev. Augustus Robinson of Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church; and Charleston City Councilman Wendell Gilliard.

Churches open soup kitchens

Goose Creek United Methodist Church and Immaculate Conception Catholic Church are sponsoring soup kitchens every Wednesday and Friday at the Methodist church, 142 Red Bank Road.

Soups, sandwiches, desserts, tea and coffee are served each week from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at no cost for anyone who is hungry.

Many of those who come live alone, and these lunches provide not only food but fellowship.
