Habitat ReStore set to move to new home

Dorchester County's Habitat for Humanity ReStore, a well-known provider of home goods such as granite counter slabs and Mullins cabinetry, has served as an affordable resource for creative and cost-conscious homeowners since 2002.

This month, the ReStore moves to a new 20,000-square-foot facility at 101 Greyback Road. In true Habitat form, volunteers constructed much of the warehouse and its adjoining affiliate offices. Local builders from D.A. Architects, Brantley Construction and Star Middle Buildings put their shoulders to the wheel, donating skilled labor and other resources.

The new store is fully equipped with heating and air conditioning and hot water — luxuries not afforded to the former site on Old Trolley Road. "We were really roughing it before," laughed store manager MaryAnn Ward.

Catering to kids

Boasting a wide selection of organic produce, gluten-free snacks and free-range meat products, Whole Foods Market has long been a shopping staple for healthful adults.

Starting Nov. 1, the company will be catering to a much younger clientele.

Last year, Whole Foods struck a deal with Colorado-based toy makers ImagiPLAY. Since then, the company has been busy developing an eco-friendly line of holiday toys for pint-sized Whole Foods customers. The Mount Pleasant store at 923 Houston Northcutt Blvd. will carry the new playthings, made from sustainable materials like harvested rubberwood.

--O'Reilly Auto Parts: This week, the specialty automotive retailer celebrates the grand opening of its Mount Pleasant location at 1533-C North Highway 17.
