State GOP seeks input through Internet
South Carolina Republicans aren't planning a statewide meeting to get input into their national party platform, but the party still plans to welcome all suggestions submitted online.
The GOP is inviting people to create an account on the Web site, www.GOPPlatform2008.com, where they can then participate in polls and submit platform ideas.
State GOP Chairman Katon Dawson said the Internet outreach will improve the transparency of the platform process, and he hopes that it will give more people a sense that they own it.
The Republicans will convene in Minneapolis in September to nominate John McCain as their presidential candidate and to approve their platform, which acts as a sort of manifesto of the party's beliefs.
While the platform may seem an arcane part of politics, Dawson said many are keenly aware of it. "I was in Taiwan recently, and the people there knew there was a caveat inside the Republican national platform for a solution for a free Taiwan."
The South Carolina GOP's secretary, Eaddy Roe Willard of Columbia, and state Sen. Mike Fair, R-Greenville, serve on the national platform committee.
The state Democratic Party is holding a public meeting in Columbia on July 26 to hear from those wishing to comment on that party's national platform.

Maybe they can look to their mentor John McCain who has never used the internets, never sent an email and is just learning now how to get online and occasionally "watches websites" but mainly relies on his staff to tell him whats going on via the web.
