Wando students' sentencing scheduled for Tuesday

The Post and Courier
Saturday, July 12, 2008

— Wando High School students arrested for their role in the August 2006 holdup of a Food Lion grocery store are scheduled to be sentenced Tuesday.

Eight youths were charged as look-outs. Two others who took lead roles in the crime spree were earlier sentenced to 10 years behind bars.

Charleston Circuit Court Judge Roger Young is in charge of the sentencings which could include probation, incarceration or elements of both. The sentencing will be at the county Judicial Center.

In December, the teens pleaded guilty for their role in the Aug. 26, 2006 holdup of the Food Lion on South Morgan's Point Road. They acted as lookouts in cars parked near the store while a classmate wearing an orange a mask went inside armed with what later was determined to be a pellet gun. He forced an employee to open a safe and left with money in a duffel bag. The group communicated by "walkie-talkies" purchased at a local retail store, along with the mask and gun. They split the take.

The lead culprits in the robbery and associated crime spree, Michael Anthony, 19, and Sean Shevlino, 17, pleaded guilty and were sentenced to 10 years. The others pleaded guilty to charges that included conspiracy to commit armed robbery and accessory after the fact. Their sentencing date was put on hold while pre-sentencing reports were on each teen and to finish education requirements.

"Their sentencing date was put on hold while pre-sentencing reports were on each teen and to finish education requirements." (This is a confusing sentence to me.)

Am I to understand that these criminals were given two years to complete HS. Did they finish at Wando in the same classes as kids who didn't commit armed robbery?

If so, I'm sure alot of parents would have liked to know that. They probably would have pitched a beyatch with the ignoramouses that serve on the CCSD Board of Trustees.

Why wasn't that common knowledge???? How did these kids get this special privilege? Do other teens get this opportunity when they commit crimes? Two years free??

Surely there was some other means of getting an education other than sending these punks back to Wando.

This really pisses me.
